Why was kuwait important to usa during gulf war? please help?

The tiny state of Kuwait is oil rich and republican friendly. Saddam was upset the state lines were redrawn meaning Iraq had less of the oil fields it did, as it bordered Kuwait. Hence saddam invaded. The US and the UK too, at the time, had investments in the oil fields of kuwait. Iraq with Saddam at the helm, was seen as a wild card, therefore the two nations defended Kuwait by invading Iraq.
